1793: President George Washington attends opening of Rickett's, the first circus in the U.S.; GW notes in diary that it was, "Nearly as amusing as a session of Congress, albeit they accomplished far more in less time."
1889: At high noon, thousands rush to claim land in the Land Run of 1889. Within hours the cities of Oklahoma City and Guthrie are formed with populations of at least 10,000.
1954: Army-McCarthy Hearings begin.
